Four Steps to Daily Facial Skin Care

A daily facial skin care regimen for all skin types includes pre-cleansing, cleansing, toning and moisturizing morning and night.

Step 1 Pre-Cleansing
Compress and dip a clean washcloth in a basin of warm water. Hold the wet cloth on your face and neck for a few moments. Repeat 10 times, and you're ready to begin cleansing. This step will begin to soften and loosen oil and dirt, making the cleansing process easier and more effective.

Step 2 Cleansing
Cleanser should always be soap free and water-soluble no matter what type of skin you have. When massaged on your face, the cleanser removes grease, dirt and oil from the pores, improves blood circulation and leaves your skin exquisitely cleansed and refreshed. This step will reduce the risk of infections which lead to blemishes.

Step 3 Toning
Toner should always be alcohol-free except extremely oily skin. It is applied to a cotton wool pad and then to your facial skin in sweeping motions. This step will tighten the pores and reduce the risk of grease and dirt returning to the areas. It will also prepare the skin to absorb and retain ingredients from the moisturizer, because wet skin is 10 times more absorbent.

Step 4 Moisturising
Moisturiser, in the form of cream or lotion, is applied to smooth and hydrate your facial skin, preventing dryness leading to irritations, soreness and flakiness. A broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun-protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 with your morning moisturizer is recommended. To ensure an intense repair, your night moisturizer should be more replenishing.
